The most notable enhancements to the new Pearl include its optical trackpad--you should be starting to see a pattern here, RIM says it's doing away with the trackball completely.
Why not just give your phones a touch screen & save the real estate for more important things... like bigger keyboards - something the Pearl desperately needs?
My MIL got a Pearl & loved it, at first. She used to brag to me how awesome it was. After having the trackball fail within months of buying it, she's off to some generic phone. Sad, really.
